"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."
Colossians 3:23–24
Every experienced electrician knows a simple truth:
The quality of an installation is rarely judged by what everyone can see.
A homeowner may admire the perfectly aligned distribution board, the neat light fittings, or the modern plug sockets. They might compliment the finished product and say, "What a beautiful installation!"
But you know something they don't.
The real quality of that installation is hidden behind the walls.
It is found in the cable routes no one will ever see.
In the correctly tightened terminals hidden inside junction boxes.
In the earth continuity that will hopefully never be called upon.
In the proper bonding that protects lives without drawing attention to itself.
In the extra care taken to ensure every conductor is correctly installed, even though it will disappear forever behind plaster and ceilings.
That is where true workmanship lives.
And that is exactly how God looks at us.
God Sees the Hidden Wires
We live in a world that celebrates what is visible.
People notice success.
They notice promotions.
They notice expensive vehicles, growing businesses, awards, and recognition.
But God looks somewhere completely different.
He examines the hidden parts.
Our integrity when no one is watching.
Our honesty when it would be easy to cut corners.
Our attitude when nobody thanks us.
Our willingness to do the job properly, even when nobody would ever know the difference.
Just as a concealed cable still carries current, our unseen character carries the weight of our testimony.
People may never see those hidden moments—but God always does.
The Temptation to Cut Corners
Every electrician has faced the temptation.
"It's only one connector."
"No one will ever open this ceiling."
"They'll never know."
"It will probably be fine."
Yet the best electricians refuse to compromise.
Not because someone is watching.
But because they know that hidden faults eventually become visible failures.
The same principle applies to our lives.
A small compromise today can become tomorrow's biggest problem.
A neglected relationship with God.
A dishonest decision.
An unforgiving heart.
A careless word.
These are the hidden faults that slowly weaken the entire installation of our lives.
God calls us to build lives that are just as sound on the inside as they appear on the outside.
Excellence Is an Act of Worship
There is something deeply honouring about doing quality work that no one else will ever notice.
Installing the correct earth conductor.
Using the right termination.
Taking the extra few minutes to ensure every connection is secure.
No applause.
No recognition.
Just quiet excellence.
That mindset reflects the heart of Colossians 3:23:
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."
When we work as though Jesus Himself will inspect the installation, our standards change.
We don't chase the minimum requirement.
We pursue excellence because excellence honours God.
God's Inspection Is Different
Electrical inspections are designed to reveal what cannot normally be seen.
Continuity tests.
Insulation resistance.
Earth loop impedance.
Polarity checks.
The hidden parts are always tested.
God's inspection is remarkably similar.
He doesn't only evaluate what people applaud.
He sees our motives.
He knows our thoughts.
He understands the decisions we make when nobody else is around.
And the wonderful truth is this:
God never overlooks faithful work done in secret.
Every honest decision.
Every act of integrity.
Every extra effort.
Every moment of obedience.
None of it is wasted.
Build a Life That Can Stand the Test
As electricians, we know that a quality installation is built long before the final switch is turned on.
It begins with careful planning.
Good workmanship.
Proper materials.
Correct connections.
Attention to every hidden detail.
Our spiritual lives are no different.
Character is built in private.
Integrity is developed when no one is watching.
Faith grows through daily obedience.
When our hidden life is healthy, everything visible becomes stronger.
Final Thought
This week, while you're pulling cables through a roof space, tightening a terminal inside a junction box, or completing work that will disappear behind a finished wall, remember this:
The hidden wires are often the most important part of the installation.
The same is true of your life.
People may only see your success.
God sees your character.
People admire the finished work.
God delights in the integrity that built it.
So build every installation—and every part of your life—with the same standard:
Not merely to pass an inspection, but to honour the One who sees every hidden wire.
"The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
