Cast Your Net on the Other Side

Cast Your Net on the Other Side

Cast Your Net on the Other Side

"He said to them, 'Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.' So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish."
John 21:6

As electricians, we are problem-solvers by nature.

We test, inspect, calculate, troubleshoot, and find solutions. We are trained to trust our knowledge, our experience, and our ability to think through challenges.

But sometimes life presents us with situations where none of our usual methods seem to work.

You have worked hard.
You have put in the hours.
You have done everything you know how to do.

Yet the results just aren't there.

That is exactly where the disciples found themselves.

They were experienced fishermen. They knew the water. They knew the equipment. They knew the trade. Yet after fishing all night, they caught absolutely nothing.

Then Jesus appeared on the shore and gave them what must have sounded like a strange instruction:

"Throw your net on the other side of the boat."

Imagine how awkward that must have sounded.

The fish weren't on another lake.
The boat wasn't in the wrong ocean.
The net was only moving a few metres to the other side.

From a human perspective, it probably seemed pointless.

But they obeyed.

And everything changed.

The moment they followed His instruction, the net filled with more fish than they could handle.

How often do we do the same?

We keep trying the same approach.
We keep following the same pattern.
We keep relying on our own understanding.

Meanwhile, God may be quietly saying:

"Try it My way."

Perhaps He is asking you to forgive when you want to hold on to anger.

Perhaps He is asking you to be patient when you want immediate answers.

Perhaps He is asking you to take a step of faith when logic says otherwise.

Perhaps He is asking you to trust Him with your business, your family, your finances, or your future.

The instruction may not always make sense.

It may even feel uncomfortable.

But God's perspective is far greater than ours.

He sees the opportunities we cannot see.
He knows the future we cannot know.
He understands the path long before we arrive there.

As electricians, we know that following the correct installation method often produces the desired result. Ignoring the manufacturer's instructions usually leads to problems.

The same applies to our spiritual lives.

God's instructions are not there to limit us.
They are there to position us for blessing.

This week, if God is asking you to "cast your net on the other side," don't be afraid to obey.

The miracle was never in the net.

The miracle was in the obedience.

Reflection

What area of your life are you still trying to do your own way when God may be calling you to trust His way?

Trust Him.

His plans never fail.
