Halfway Through the Year: Don’t Give Up, Adjust Your Steps and Face What Must Be Faced
Believe it or not, half of 2026 is already behind us. This week we step into the last half of the year, and for many electricians, contractors, apprentices, fathers, leaders, and working men, this is a good time to pause and ask an honest question:
How is it going with the things you wanted to achieve this year?
Maybe at the beginning of the year you had clear plans. You wanted to complete a course, register with the Department of Labour, grow your business, finish your trade test, get your Wireman’s License, improve your finances, spend more time with your family, or become more disciplined in your walk with God.
But now we are halfway through the year, and maybe things did not go exactly as planned.
Maybe work became busy.
Maybe finances became tight.
Maybe family responsibilities pulled you in another direction.
Maybe you started strong but lost momentum.
Maybe life simply happened.
But here is the encouragement for today:
Do not confuse a changed plan with a failed year.
The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 16:9:
“A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.”
As electricians, we understand plans. We read drawings. We follow layouts. We prepare materials. We measure, install, test, and inspect. But we also know that no site ever goes exactly according to plan. Sometimes the cable route changes. Sometimes the DB position moves. Sometimes the client changes the layout. Sometimes you arrive on site and realise the plan needs to be adjusted before the work can be done properly.
Life works the same way.
You may have made plans at the beginning of this year, but God may be adjusting your route. That does not mean He has forgotten you. That does not mean you are behind. That does not mean you have failed. It may simply mean that the Lord is guiding your steps in a direction that will build you, strengthen you, and prepare you for something greater.
Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God’s thoughts toward His people are thoughts of peace, hope, and a future.
God’s plan is not always the quickest route, but it is always the safest route. It is not always the easiest path, but it is always the path where He walks with you.
So, as we enter the second half of 2026, do not sit with regret over what did not happen yet. Do not punish yourself for the delays, changes, or setbacks. Take a breath, look up, and ask God:
“Lord, what step do You want me to take next?”
Because the year is not over.
The work is not finished.
Your calling is not cancelled.
Your purpose is still alive.
Facing the Challenge You Know You Must Face
There is also a second question we need to ask ourselves halfway through this year:
Is there a challenge in front of you that you know you need to face?
Maybe it is a course you have been postponing.
Maybe it is your registration that you need to sort out.
Maybe it is a difficult conversation.
Maybe it is a business decision.
Maybe it is a bad habit that must stop.
Maybe it is fear that has been holding you back.
Maybe it is something in your personal life that you know you can no longer avoid.
Many times, the things we avoid become heavier than the things we face.
But the Word of God gives us courage. In Joshua 1:9, God says:
“Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid... for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
That is powerful.
God does not say the challenge will not be real.
He does not say the mountain will not be high.
He does not say the work will not require effort.
But He does promise this:
You will not face it alone.
For the electrician standing in front of a difficult job, the apprentice trying to prove himself, the contractor trying to keep the business going, the father carrying responsibility at home, or the man quietly fighting battles nobody sees — this message is for you:
God is with you in the second half of this year.
You may feel unsure, but you are not alone.
You may feel tired, but you are not forgotten.
You may feel under pressure, but you are not without help.
You may feel like the challenge is too big, but your God is bigger.
Romans 8:28 gives us this assurance:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God...”
That does not mean everything will always be easy. It does not mean every door will open immediately. It does not mean every problem will disappear overnight.
But it does mean that when you walk with God, even the difficult seasons can become part of a greater purpose. The setback can teach you. The delay can protect you. The challenge can strengthen you. The pressure can refine you. The battle can prepare you for the next level.
The Second Half Can Still Be Powerful
A football game is not decided only in the first half.
A project is not judged halfway through installation.
A wiring job is not complete before it has been tested.
A year is not finished because six months have passed.
There is still time.
There is still time to grow.
There is still time to study.
There is still time to register.
There is still time to fix what needs fixing.
There is still time to build better habits.
There is still time to make peace.
There is still time to step forward.
There is still time to trust God again.
Sometimes the second half of the year is not about chasing every goal you wrote down in January. Sometimes it is about becoming obedient to the next step God places in front of you.
Maybe your plan was success, but God is teaching you patience.
Maybe your plan was speed, but God is teaching you discipline.
Maybe your plan was comfort, but God is building your character.
Maybe your plan was control, but God is teaching you trust.
And that is not failure.
That is growth.
Electrician, Take the Next Right Step
In our trade, you cannot energise an installation that is incomplete, unsafe, or untested. You need to do things correctly. You need to follow the process. You need to make sure the foundation is right.
The same applies to life.
Do not rush the process.
Do not give up because the route changed.
Do not ignore the challenge because it feels uncomfortable.
Do not allow fear to make decisions for you.
Do not measure your year only by what has not happened yet.
Measure it also by what God is teaching you.
Maybe you are wiser than you were in January.
Maybe you are stronger than you were in January.
Maybe you are more humble, more patient, more focused, or more aware of what really matters.
That is progress too.
Philippians 1:6 reminds us that He who began a good work will continue that work until it is complete.
God does not leave His work unfinished. And if He is still working in you, then your story is not over.
A Word for the Man Who Feels Behind
To the electrician who feels behind today: you are not out of the race.
To the apprentice who feels uncertain: keep learning, keep listening, keep growing.
To the contractor under pressure: keep your standards high, keep your faith strong, and keep moving forward.
To the father carrying more than people realise: God sees every sacrifice.
To the man who knows he needs to face something difficult: take it to God first, then take the step.
You do not have to solve the whole year in one day. You only need to take the next faithful step.
Pray about it.
Plan wisely.
Ask for help where needed.
Be honest with yourself.
Make the call.
Start the course.
Fix the mistake.
Face the challenge.
Trust God with the outcome.
Closing Thought
As we enter the last half of 2026, let us not walk into it with regret, fear, or disappointment.
Let us walk into it with faith.
Faith that God can redirect our steps.
Faith that a changed plan is not a failed plan.
Faith that the challenge in front of us is not bigger than the God beside us.
Faith that all things can still work together for good when we place our lives in His hands.
Electrician, the year is not over.
There is still wire to pull.
There are still circuits to complete.
There are still lessons to learn.
There are still doors that can open.
There are still victories ahead.
So lift your head, strengthen your hands, and trust the Lord for the second half.
The first half may not have gone exactly according to your plan, but the second half can still be walked in God’s purpose.
And when you walk with God, you never walk alone. ⚡🙏
