Meaning of Stewardship

Meaning of Stewardship

Stewardship is the responsible management, control, and care of resources, property, or matters entrusted to someone but not owned by them. It involves the ethical handling of time, talents, money, and the environment. It emphasizes that a person is a “manager,” not the ultimate owner, acting for the benefit of the true owner.

Core Aspects of Stewardship:

Management of Entrusted Matters:

A steward takes care of property, money, authority, or talents on behalf of another. In the biblical context, this refers to people caring for God’s creation.

Responsibility & Ethics:

It involves the wise and careful use of resources, often in a business or governmental context, to ensure social and ecological sustainability.

Christian Context:
It is a calling to develop and use physical and spiritual abilities to the glory of God, including time, health, and wealth.

Ownership:

A good steward understands that everything he or she possesses ultimately belongs to God and is only on loan.

Biblical Stewardship

According to the Bible, stewardship is the recognition that God is the sole Owner of all things (the Creator), and that humans are managers appointed to care for His creation, gifts, time, talents, and money faithfully for His glory. It involves responsible care, wise application, and accountability.

Core Aspects of Biblical Stewardship:

🔸️_Ownership:_
God owns everything; we are merely stewards (managers) of His possessions.

🔸️_Scope:_
Stewardship includes not only finances, but also time, the body (1 Cor. 6:19–20), the environment, spiritual gifts, and knowledge.

🔸️_Responsibility:_
Believers must use the resources God has entrusted to them in an ethical and wise manner (Matt. 25 – Parable of the Talents).

🔸️_Purpose:_
The primary goal is to glorify God and be a blessing to others.

🔸️_Giving:_
Tithes and offerings are an aspect of stewardship, acknowledging that God is the Giver of all things.

The Bible teaches that a good steward is faithful and will ultimately give an account of how entrusted matters were managed.

⚠️‼️*HOW DOES THIS RELATE AND APPLY TO OUR INDUSTRY❓️*

1️⃣ Stewardship of Safety

Is to Encourage electricians to see safety not just as compliance with SANS 10142-1, but as stewardship of human life.

Every installation affects families.
Every shortcut risks someone’s life.
Every compliant CoC protects the public.

 Message to industry:
“We are stewards of life, not just installers of cables.”

When electricians understand they are caretakers of human safety, standards become conviction-driven, not regulation-driven.

2️⃣ Stewardship of Standards (SANS & IEC)

We often reference SANS and IEC — this is already stewardship thinking.

Encourage the industry:
That Standards are not obstacles.

They are entrusted frameworks.

They protect the integrity of the trade.

Message to industry:
“If we lower standards, we damage the industry we were entrusted to build.”

⚠️_True professionals protect the reputation of the electrical trade._

3️⃣ Stewardship of Skill & Knowledge

Many in the industry operate at minimum level.

We should Challenge all to understand:

Your qualification is a trust.

Your trade knowledge is a gift.

Your registration is a responsibility.

Encourage continuous learning:

Updates to SANS 10142-1

Earthing systems (like SANS 10292 SANS 725 IEEE80)

Hazardous area classifications SANS 10108

AND MANY OTHER ‼️

Message to industry:

“Your license is not a title. It is a trust.”

4️⃣ Stewardship of Reputation

The electrical industry often suffers from:

Underquoting
Cutting corners
Issuing illegal CoCs

Stewardship means protecting:

🔸️Professional integrity
🔸️Public trust
🔸️Legal compliance
🔸️Ethical workmanship

5️⃣ Stewardship of Power (Literally)

Electricity is powerful and dangerous.

WE HAVE TO Remind the industry:

🔹️We control something that can kill or preserve life.

🔹️We distribute energy that sustains hospitals, homes and businesses.

🔹️That is not a small responsibility.

6️⃣ Christian Application (If Speaking to Believers)

Addressing electricians:

✳️God owns the work.
