The Fruit of the Spirit in the Life of a Tradesman

The Fruit of the Spirit in the Life of a Tradesman

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." – Galatians 5:22

In the electrical trade, we know that every connection matters. A single loose wire can cause sparks, and a poorly installed system can fail when it’s needed most. In the same way, our lives as Christian tradesmen must be well-connected to the Source—God—so that the fruit of the Spirit can flow through us.

Let’s see how each fruit of the Spirit can be compared to the everyday life of an electrician:

  • Love – Just as wiring carries current to light up a home, love is the current that powers all we do. Without love, the system is dead. A tradesman who works without love for people and for his craft will never leave a lasting impact.

  • Joy – Joy is like a well-lit room after the switch is turned on. As electricians, we know the satisfaction of seeing a system work perfectly. In our spiritual lives, joy is the light that shines even when the jobsite is dusty, hot, or difficult.

  • Peace – Peace is like a stable power supply—steady, reliable, and free from surges. A peaceful tradesman can work calmly even under pressure, knowing God is in control.

  • Patience (Forbearance) – Every tradesman knows the frustration of a stubborn fault-finding job. It takes patience to track down the problem and not give up. In life, patience allows us to keep pressing on when things don’t go as planned.

  • Kindness – Just as we handle delicate wires with care, we are called to treat people with kindness. A kind word or helping hand to a fellow tradesman or client can change someone’s whole day.

  • Goodness – Quality workmanship is a form of goodness. When an electrician does the right thing, even when nobody is watching, he reflects God’s standard of excellence.

  • Faithfulness – Just as clients trust us to do the job safely and correctly, God calls us to be faithful in the small things. Consistency in our work and our walk with Christ is what builds trust and integrity.

  • Gentleness – Electricity is powerful, but it must be handled with care. In the same way, we are called to be strong yet gentle—firm in truth but tender in how we treat people.

  • Self-control – Every tradesman knows the danger of rushing or cutting corners. Self-control keeps us disciplined, ensuring we follow safety rules and God’s Word, even when shortcuts tempt us.

When an installation is done properly, everything works together in harmony, and the lights shine brightly. In the same way, when we allow the Spirit of God to work in us, the fruit of the Spirit is visible in our lives, and others will see the light of Christ shining through us.

So, electrician, as you step onto the jobsite today, remember that you carry more than tools in your bag—you carry the Spirit of God within you. Let the fruit of the Spirit flow through your work, your words, and your life.
